Hummus is an excellent food for runners and athletes in general: it is rich in protein, light and easily digestible, also ideal for vegetarians
Hummus is a food of Middle Eastern origin, increasingly popular in our kitchens too, but perhaps nobody knows that it is also an ideal dish for runners and sportsmen in general.
Many people who play sports are often also struggling with the diet, looking for an original dish. After sport, it is important to take protein food, which allows the muscles to recover quickly from the effort made. Typically athletes solve the problem by consuming large amounts of protein, such as low-fat cheeses or fat-free meats. The result is that the runner's diet includes ricotta and grilled chicken breast, delicious foods, but so boring that they are often replaced by sad protein bars: zero preparation, low cost, minimum effort.
For this reason, many athletes are always looking for something that makes their diet less monotonous.
Hummus comes in handy, a thick cream based on chickpeas, with an intense but delicate flavor, also ideal for dipping raw vegetables, to be used instead of mayonnaise. Hummus is a very simple dish to prepare and, when ready, it can be kept in the fridge for a few days without any problem. The massive presence of chickpeas leads to a high protein content in the dish, which is free of saturated fats and also rich in minerals and vitamins.
But how is Hummus prepared? Just have a blender and a few ingredients.
150 grams of cooked chickpeas
the juice of half a lemon
1 tbsp Tahin
20 grams of sesame
extra virgin olive oil to taste
The sesame must be roasted in a pan, taking care not to burn it; it only takes a couple of minutes, when the pan is hot and oil-free. Put all the ingredients in the blender and operate it until a very thick cream is obtained. The consistency can be changed by adding more or less oil to the mixture. By using an immersion blender and placing the ingredients in a tall, narrow container, it is possible to collect air, thus preparing a kind of whipped hummus, very pleasant. You can change the recipe to taste with garlic and chilli, parsley, or sesame oil.
