There is currently a recall underway for butter that could be contaminated with a pathogen. We strongly advise against consuming the product. The goods were placed on the market by REWE.
The Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) provides information on its website about a recall from REWE. The company therefore initiated a recall of the product Die Grillerei Herb Butter AMA in the 100 gram pack on May 17, 2024.
Possible Listeria contamination
The producer LaBan Foods BV is recalling the item Die Grillerei Herb Butter AMA in the 100 gram pack and with the best before date (Best Before) July 13, 2024 as a precautionary measure for reasons of consistent consumer protection.
As part of regular analyses, possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes (Listeria) was identified. In order to exclude a potential health risk, we strongly advise against consuming and using this product with a best before date of July 13, 2024.
The inventory of the affected goods was withdrawn from sale at BILLA and BILLA PLUS. Affected products that have already been purchased can now be returned without a receipt.
Infection often occurs unnoticed
Listeria are bacteria that can cause what is known as listeriosis. In healthy adults, an infection with this pathogen is in most cases unnoticeable or has a harmless course with flu-like symptoms such as fever and muscle pain or vomiting and diarrhea.
However, these germs can lead to severe, sometimes fatal forms of listeriosis, especially in risk groups such as senior citizens and people with weakened immune systems.
Listeria poses a particular risk for pregnant women, as an infection can cause stillbirth, premature birth and neonatal listeriosis, as well as meningitis and sepsis (blood poisoning) in the unborn child. (ad)
