Celery is one of the healthiest and most appreciated vegetables. Rich in fiber and water, it is ideal for those who want to keep fit. Its seeds are less known, equally beneficial. Often used as spices in the kitchen, they represent a panacea for the health of the digestive system and for the control of blood sugar levels.

Science has repeatedly spent on investigating their properties. Noteworthy in this regard is a 2009 study conducted by a team from Sheffield Hallam University (UK). The experts in question used a raw alcoholic extract of celery seeds, discovering its effectiveness in the treatment of infections with Helicobacter pylori, one of the most frequent bacteria in the gastrointestinal level. It is fundamental to specify that it is one of the many test-tube studies and that, today as today, it is still not possible to speak definitively of decisive effects on humans.

As mentioned above, celery seeds can also be useful for the control of blood sugar levels. In this case, we must say thanks to the presence of magnesium (a coffee spoon of these seeds allows to take about 9% of the RDA of the precious mineral).

Magnesium is linked to numerous health benefits. In this category, it is possible to mention the optimization of cell responses to insulin. Integrating foods rich in this mineral – such as celery seeds – into your diet helps reduce the risk of dealing with a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes.

Even at this juncture, one can speak of several scientific evidences. The list includes a review dating back to 2011 and conducted by a team of experts from Soochow University in Suzhou (China). The scholars just mentioned carried out a search on the PubMed database, deepening the peculiarities of some prospective cohort studies with the aim of examining the association between magnesium intake and type 2 diabetes risk. This work allowed to identify further evidence to supporting the effectiveness of a magnesium-rich diet and reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes.

We could go on and on about the benefits of celery seeds! Not to be overlooked in this regard is the content of antioxidant polyphenols. At this point, it is natural to ask what are the best ways to add them to the diet. Among the alternatives in question, it is possible to mention the fact of adding them to the salad. In addition, celery seeds can be used to flavor grilled meat. Since they can interact with the effects of some drugs, we point out that, before taking them, it is advisable to consult your doctor.
