Detox diet 9 days before the holidays

This year, we can anticipate: here is the 9-day detox diet, to get to the holidays with a few pounds less

Raise your hand if you, during the Christmas holidays, have never indulged in some excess food, arriving in the new year with a few extra pounds and an annoying sense of bloating. Instead of running for cover only after the fact, we can prevent: here is a detox diet lasting 9 days to cleanse the body and get back in shape.

What we are talking about is a controlled diet, based on the consumption of healthy foods and the use of some supplements with proven detoxifying effectiveness. Of course, to enjoy its benefits even more it is useful to combine a little physical activity with your diet: if you love the gym, you will not need our advice, alternatively a good brisk walk is the best habit to get back in shape and stimulate the process of elimination of toxins.

But let's go back to nutrition, to find out how it is possible to deflate the belly and detoxify in just 9 days. The ideal detox diet is mainly plant-based: green light for fruit and vegetables, to fill up on fiber and antioxidants, essential substances for the health of the body.

The fibers promote intestinal transit and promote the disposal of waste, thus purifying the stomach and intestines. Furthermore, their slimming efficacy has now been demonstrated: several studies, as evidenced by the review published in Obesity Review, have correlated the consumption of fiber with an increased sense of satiety and a reduction in body weight.

Antioxidants also contribute to the fight against overweight and obesity. A review published in Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity highlighted how polyphenols, among which substances such as quercetin, curcumin and resveratrol stand out, have beneficial effects at the level of adipose tissue, reducing oxidative stress and fighting chronic inflammation.

When choosing the products to bring to the table, prefer seasonal fruit and vegetables, possibly from organic farming. Avoiding preservatives and pesticides is a good way to reduce the accumulation of toxins and allow our body to clean itself. Also pay attention to salt, which promotes water retention and counteracts the detox activity.

It is also essential to drink plenty of water, to promote the elimination of waste substances from our body. Alcoholic beverages, which strain the kidneys and liver, are banned, but also carbonated drinks, which bring unnecessary amounts of sugar and swell the belly.

As for supplements, one of the most useful is certainly the one based on aloe vera. Its plant compounds have a wide field of application: several studies have shown the effectiveness of its gel as an antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antitumor. It also appears to have benefits on digestive health and the treatment of overweight – although more research is needed in this area.

Garcinia cambogia, on the other hand, could have important anti-obesity properties: it regulates the levels of the hormone linked to the sense of satiety, decreases lipogenesis and contributes to the oxidation of fats. Also in this case, few studies have been carried out over the years, so we will have to wait for further confirmation.
