Minerals are essential nutrients for our health. Adding them to your diet can be useful for improving heart and brain functions, but also for optimizing hormone synthesis and enzyme production.

When it comes to minerals, it is necessary to distinguish between two categories according to the needs of our body: macrominerals, that is those that our body needs most, and trace elements.

In the first list we find calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium, chloride. In the second, however, copper, iron, selenium, zinc, molybdenum and manganese (just to give some examples). Adding minerals to the diet is not difficult at all: in fact, the foods characterized by the presence of these nutrients are different and tasty.

Among the foods in question it is possible to mention nuts and seeds. Going more specifically, let's take the example of Brazilian nuts and remember that one alone is able to provide over 100% of the RDA of selenium, a mineral crucial for the proper functioning of the thyroid and, consequently, for the efficiency of the metabolism and fitness. Pumpkin seeds, on the other hand, are excellent sources of magnesium.

Continuing with the list of foods that are important to consider in a diet rich in minerals, we find crustaceans and molluscs. Just to cite some important examples, let's call into question oysters, excellent sources of zinc, a basic mineral when it comes to optimizing immune responses, copper, selenium and iron.

There is no denying: the alternatives to bring to the table for those who want to follow a diet rich in minerals are really tasty and healthy! Among the foods in question it is also possible to mention cruciferous vegetables (e.g. cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts).

At this juncture, it is necessary to mention the richness in sulfur, a mineral that plays a central role when it comes to cellular function and synthesis of glutathione, one of the most important antioxidants produced by our body. Furthermore, thanks to their low caloric intake and richness in fiber, they are very useful for weight control.

We conclude by recalling that among the foods rich in minerals we also find eggs, beans and cocoa and that before adding the foods listed up to now to the diet it is advisable to ask your doctor for advice.
