Diet with zucchini: reduce sugars and digest better

Adding zucchini to your diet can prove to be an excellent idea. These vegetables, belonging to the Cucurbitaceae family, are in fact a real cure-all when it comes to reducing sugars, promoting weight loss and optimizing the efficiency of digestion.

Low-calorie and versatile in the kitchen, they are an excellent alternative to pasta for those who want to follow a low-carbohydrate food program. Just to give some numbers about the content of these nutrients, remember that in 230 grams of cooked zucchini we find only three of carbohydrates.

When it comes to the ability of courgettes to contribute to the reduction of blood sugar, it is crucial to question their fiber richness. As demonstrated by numerous studies – among which it is possible to cite a 2008 research work that involved an active team at the German Institute of Human Nutrition – the intake of dietary fiber has a key role in improving post response glucose prandiale.

As mentioned earlier, the consumption of zucchini is particularly recommended for those aiming to lose weight. The reasons are manifold. On the one hand, we repeat, these vegetables bring very few calories (about 16 per 100 grams). On the other hand, however, they are very rich in water, allied with the drainage of the slag that our body accumulates over time (and which are certainly not congenial for the purpose of maintaining a healthy weight). In addition, thanks to the aforementioned fibers, courgettes are a portentous as regards the improvement of satiety levels, an aspect that has positive consequences on physical fitness.

One fiber in particular, namely pectin, is also essential for maintaining cardiovascular well-being. As demonstrated by a 2012 study conducted at the University of Maastricht, it is able to reduce LDL cholesterol levels in male subjects with hypercholesterolemia problems. What can be said about the benefits related to digestion instead? That once again we must say thanks to the fibers and in particular to the insoluble ones, very important when it comes to preventing constipation.

We conclude by remembering that, before including zucchini in your diet, you must seek advice from your doctor. If there are no contraindications, all that remains is to have fun in the stove making them protagonists of recipes such as omelettes, pies and the delicious fake spaghetti which, as we have already highlighted, are perfect for those who want to reduce their carbohydrate intake without sacrificing taste.
