First and foremost, you will hurt yourself and your pockets, since you will certainly have spent money to buy them.

Secondly, but not least, you have to consider that the fashion industry is extremely impactful for the planet.

Suffice it to say that it alone causes 20% of the waste of water resources (and today with the drought alarm that has been looming for months this problem seems even more serious than before).

It also causes 10% of carbon dioxide emissions and is responsible for 24% of insecticide use and 11% of pesticide use.

Think that 85% of clothes end up in landfills, while only 1% is recycled. This is very wrong.

If we all could giving a new life to used garments would do ourselves, our pockets and the environment that hosts us a favor.

At this point, however, there is good news: some shops – even many famous ones, mind you – they give their customers money in exchange for used clothes. It seems utopia, but it is reality.

Some pay in cash, while others give those who use this service coupons and vouchers to use, thus saving on new purchases, still others will do nothing but resell your clothes, then giving you a percentage of the proceeds.

In any case, however, you can make money simply by not throwing away the clothes that you would no longer wear anyway. Brilliant, isn’t it?

But how can we make money with used clothes that we no longer wear? Here are which brands will pay us if we bring them what we no longer need.

Here’s how to make money on clothes you no longer wear

The practice of giving out money in exchange for used clothes it has actually been a practice for some brands for years.

The reason is above all sustainability: taking a used garment and recycling it, you will create sustainable garments, which therefore more respect the planet.

Hence, the choice of brands to adopt this system, which therefore pushes people not to throw away the clothes they are not wearing, but to take them to their stores to be able to earn.

And in this period in which inflation is king as we never know that saving is very important.

Having said that, what are the brands that offer us this possibility? An example it’s H&M, who started the Garment Collecting program.

We must consider that the program started in 2013, so long before the pandemic, the economic crisis, the increase in inflation.

To participate, just bring used clothes of any brand to one of their stores. If they are worn, it doesn’t matter, you can deliver them anyway.

All you have to do is simply go to the cashier and give them these clothes: you will receive a discount voucher worth € 5 to use on your next purchase

What will H&M do next? It depends. At that point their business partner I: CO will think about understanding what to do, but there are three solutions.

The first is to resell the garments as second-hand, the second is to reuse the fabrics that are no longer wearable, converting them into other products, such as those of the Conscious collection, the third is to recycle the garments.

A similar initiative it also started with Intimissimi. In this case it will be enough to give them 5 garments – regardless of the brand, for get a 5 euro voucher to be used for in-store purchases.

This can then be combined with other discounts, so as to have greater savings. The items that Intimissimi accepts are pajamas, underwear, briefs and bras.

In this case, however, there are some limitations: to use the service you will need to activate the Intimissimi loyalty card and then the total discount cannot exceed 20% of the total price of your purchases.

Another brand you can make money with by selling used clothes is Notrh Face, who started the Clothes the Loop program.

What is it about? An initiative that allows all customers to deliver the clothing and footwear they no longer wish to wear at any of the brand’s stores. Also in this case, even worn ones will be fine.

The clothes are then taken to a recycling center where they will be divided into 400 different categories.

At that point they can be reused or recycled to obtain insulation products, carpet and toy fillings, and textile fibers.

What do those who join the initiative get? A voucher for a new purchase and the proceeds are then destined to charities.

It’s still, another example is Oviesse. In this case what can you do? Just bring used clothes to one of the brand’s stores and leave them in a special container. The company, with the help of its partner HUMANA, will transform them into resources for social projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

However, you can make money with your used clothes in other ways as well. A few examples? THE flea markets, which are now present in every city.

Alternatively, you could focus on specific apps, such as Vinted, now very famous, on which you can sell everything you no longer wear.

And if you want to know how to recycle the socks and leggings that you no longer wear specifically, here’s how you can turn them into a shirt.

However, now it will certainly become clear that making money with the clothes you no longer wear is really easy.
