Diabetics must stay away from sugars, but this does not mean that they have to give up sweets altogether, just pay attention to the quantity and ingredients.

Diabetics and desserts with fruit
From sweets too rich in sugar and creams everyone should be kept away, not just diabetics. While for others the natural consequence is to choose fruit desserts, diabetics actually have to pay attention to fruit as well. Some varieties contain higher doses of sugar, think of bananas or tropical fruits, better to prefer apples, berries, peaches, apricots, pomegranates, less sugary and therefore better tolerated. The consideration, however, should not be made exclusively on the source of sugars, but also and above all on the total amount of sugars and carbohydrates introduced throughout the day. Reduced portions are therefore fundamental: the diabetic can give himself a slice of cake a week, the important thing is not to overdo it. When preparing a fruit dessert, the fact that the fruit being of its sweetness makes it possible to use less sugar in the dough should be considered.

Diabetics and dessert ingredients
Another important issue is the composition of the dessert. Those who prefer ingredients with a lower glycemic index, such as wholemeal flours, should be preferred; sweets should be little or no sugar (there are interesting alternatives to sugar), with jams without added sugar. As for desserts with dried fruit, it must be said that walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts and other dried shell fruits are granted, instead candied fruit and dehydrated fruit should be avoided since they are a concentrate of sugars. Regarding the use of yogurt in desserts, it is always preferable to use natural white with no added sugar. Go ahead also to a small square of dark chocolate, the important thing is that the cocoa paste is the face of a master and that the percentage of added sugars is zero or derisory. And honey? As sugar affects blood sugar, but to its advantage it has the fact that being sweeter than common sugar it can be put less to sweeten. Finally, beware of liqueur sweets: alcohol contains sugars.
