According to a recent study, eating 40 grams of cheese helps reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular disease.
Fresh and aged cheeses
Research conducted by scholars from Soochow University in Suzhou in China and published in the European Journal of Nutrition highlights how eating cheese is good for you.
According to the results of the survey, people who eat about 40 grams of cheese daily have a lower risk of incurring stroke and cardiovascular disease than those who rarely consume it or who do not consume it at all. The researchers analyzed data from 15 observational studies conducted on over 200,000 volunteers and it emerged that moderate daily consumption of cheese contributes to heart well-being. To be precise, according to the analysis conducted, individuals who ate cheese every day were 14% less likely to develop heart disease and 10% less risk of being affected by stroke than people who consumed it seldom or never. It must also be said, however, that there is a threshold beyond which the consumption of cheese becomes harmful. The ideal quantity according to the researcher is around 40 grams per day.
The result of the study may be surprising since the cheese contains saturated fat, responsible for diseases such as hypercholesterolaemia, atherosclerosis and heart disease, but it should not be forgotten that calcium, protein, linoleic acid and probiotics are also present in this food, which are instead a good for health. In particular, the action of probiotics and conjugated linoleic acid proves to be precious for the well-being of the heart since the former reduce any inflammatory states and the latter contributes to keeping the blood cholesterol level under control. That's why consuming cheese in moderation turns out to be the best solution for reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.
