Licorice juice is an excellent remedy to treat seasonal ailments, such as inflamed throat and bronchitis

Licorice: properties, uses, benefits and contraindications

Licorice is not only good, but also effective in combating many problems, such as inflamed throat and bronchitis.

The power of this food is found in glycyrrhizin and in other active ingredients with a high anti-inflammatory power. Precisely for this reason it is recommended in case of colds with symptoms ranging from phlegm to cough, up to the inflamed throat. How is it assumed? Simply prepare a decoction using licorice, eucalyptus and thyme.

This natural remedy works to soothe inflammation from the inside, reducing burning and dissolving the bronchial catarrh, which can then be expelled. But the properties of licorice do not end there, because this root, besides being useful against seasonal ailments, is an excellent remedy for many other problems.

It helps to regulate digestion: just sip a glass of licorice juice after each meal to counteract halitosis and improve digestion, especially if we also add chamomile and peppermint. This food is effective even in case of constipation: an herbal tea with frangula, cassia, mint and licorice is ideal to improve intestinal transit and deflate the belly.

Finally, licorice is recommended for those suffering from hypotension. The dry extract of this food helps to counteract sudden drops in pressure and dizziness. But be careful, in any case, before taking licorice it is essential to ask your doctor for advice. High doses can cause an increase in the sodium concentration in the body, causing water retention problems.

For this reason, licorice is not recommended for those suffering from high blood pressure, but also for women taking the contraceptive pill. In the latter case, in fact, the simultaneous consumption of the pill and licorice could worsen hypopotassemia and hypertension problems.

This remedy should be taken with caution even by those suffering from kidney failure, those suffering from menstrual disorders and those taking particular categories of medicines. Therefore, you should always consult your doctor first.
