In question, a packaging defect that would allow the child to access the batteries and potentially swallow them, which would cause dramatic accidents. Find out which lots are affected by this recall.

Lithium button batteries are ubiquitous in our daily lives, whether in remote controls, in watches or in certain children’s games. Due to their small size, these can be dangerous to the health of children if swallowed. Marketed from 01/12/2022 to 18/08/2023, in many major stores throughout France (Carrefour Groupe, Auchan, Leroy Merlin, Monoprix, Bricoman, etc.), lithium button batteries from the Energizer brand have been taken off the shelves. “Due to its packaging and the risk of access to the battery for a child, this product is declared “dangerous”says Rappel Conso.

A deadly risk

According to the government site Rappel Conso, the mentioned lots have a packaging problem. “following the bend or twist test of the packaging, the products have a slot longer than the maximum size allowed and therefore present a risk of access to the button battery for a child”, specifies the site for alerts of products dangerous to health. The latter were therefore considered dangerous because of a risk of poisoning, if ingested by children.

When ingested, button batteries pose a potentially fatal risk to children because of their toxicity in the body. “When a button battery is ingested, it can become blocked in the esophagus and cause a local burn, the severity of which increases significantly beyond the second hour. The risk is increased if the battery has a diameter greater than or equal to 15 mm and when the child is 5 years old or less. says the High Authority of Health.

If you notice that a child has ingested a button battery, the High Authority for Health (HAS) recommends that you do not wait to intervene. Leave the child on an empty stomach without trying to make him vomit and contact 15 or a poison control center to receive precise information and so that the emergency services can assess the child’s state of health. Once in the emergency room, the child will benefit from a thoracic radiology (to find the isolation of the pile) and an upper digestive endoscopy. Removing the swallowed battery therefore becomes a vital emergency.

If you therefore have one of these lots mentioned, you can bring it back to the point of sale. A refund will then be offered to you as compensation.
