Rest for breastfeeding. How to request it

Rest for breastfeeding. How to request it

The INPS has changed the ways to request and use breastfeeding permits for new mothers: this is how they work

When a child is born, few think of the bureaucratic aspects of motherhood, taken from rhythms to settle and new balances in the family to find.

There are rests for new mothers of which they can take advantage of for breastfeeding and it is news of these days the change of the ways to request them and be able to enjoy them. The INPS has indeed communicated through a note that for the request of permits for breastfeeding it will be necessary to use mainly the telematic mode.

For new mothers it will be possible to apply for it through the website of the Social Security Institute. You can also call the INPS toll-free number or contact a patronage. Breastfeeding rest tools are an alternative for new mothers to parental leave. These permits in fact allow the working mother to return to work once the required period of maternity has ended, but following a reduced service time until the child's first year of age.

In particular, depending on the working time, the requesting new mother has the right to a specific number of hours of permission from which she can benefit every day. For example, for workers with 6 hours working hours, they can benefit from 2 hours of leave and have the possibility to postpone the entry or to anticipate the exit. The decision on how to use the permits must be taken in agreement with the employer.

If the new mother is employed part-time and therefore works less than 6 hours a day, she can have an hour of leave. If we talk about twin births, the rests for breastfeeding are doubled: for those who work at least 6 hours a day, we talk about 4 hours of leave, while for those who follow a working time of less than 6 hours we talk about 2 hours of leave .

Rest can be requested in case of adoption, but even in this case they cannot be combined with parental leave. To request permission for breastfeeding, the mother must therefore renounce the leave. This may not be negative: it is indeed convenient from an economic point of view to prefer rest for breastfeeding to parental leave. In the latter case, the days of leave are paid at 30% until the child reaches 6 years of age, while during breastfeeding rests, the working new mother receives the entire salary.
