Summer time 2022, when it clicks and how to move the hands

In the night between 26 and 27 March the hand moves, here’s how and some tips to combat fatigue

With the arrival of Spring, the time also changes, as usual, in fact, we will return to summer time which means that we will sleep an hour less and therefore it will take a few days of adjustment to get used to the new sleep – wake rhythm.

But when will the hands have to be moved? The date to be marked on the calendar is that of the night between 26 and 27 March 2022, the hand of the clock will be moved one hour forward.

Daylight saving time, when it clicks and how to move the hands

Summer time 2022 will start on the night between 26 and 27 March, around two in the morning. We will therefore have to say goodbye to solar time, which however should return starting from 23 October 2022.

The hands will have to be moved forward one hour and for this you will sleep less. This time change does not exist in some countries of the world where it has been established to maintain for the entire duration of the 12 months or one or the other option. While in Europe there has been a discussion on the issue, but which has not yet seen an agreement reached that will suit everyone.

Italy has decided to take sides and want to keep the two different times, which start at specific times of the year. One of these is precisely the arrival of summer time, one week after the spring equinox, which will make the hand move forward by one hour at two in the morning.

Therefore, at two o’clock, the hand must be moved to three o’clock. The result will be longer days, but also less rest. At least initially. So in this sense we must run for cover so as not to suffer too much and too long the consequences of an hour of sleep less.

The advantages of summer time

The advantages of summer time reside above all in terms of energy and consumption, which significantly decrease at this stage of the year. Obviously, using less electricity also has a positive impact on the environment.

The days will last longer, with an extra hour of light a day: and this is also good for the mind and body, more light is a stimulus to go out, to do physical activity in the open air and enjoy the rays of the only (with adequate protection) that they are a great source of well-being and vitamin D. The mood will suffer greatly, in a positive sense, as soon as the initial settling phase is passed.

How not to undergo the change of time

There are some strategies to put in place in order not to undergo the change of time: the arrival of summer time normally makes you more tired and nervous for a few days, precisely because of the less hour of rest. But you can make sure you approach this phase in the right spirit. Starting from a change of times already in the days preceding the date on which the hand will be moved forward.

  • Trying to go to sleep earlier is very useful to get used to the new sleep and wake cycle, because an hour seems small but in reality it can affect – and a lot – on our daily well-being.
  • Eat lightly so as not to disturb the sleep-wake rhythm.
  • Exercise and – if possible – make this appointment early in the morning.

With these small tricks you should be able to overcome the time change unscathed and enjoy more the long days leading up to summer.
