1) Green radicchio. Second only to carrots in terms of beta-carotene, it is nothing less than radicchio. This substance is able to stimulate the production of melanin giving the body a darker complexion. Not only that, it helps the skin protect itself from the negative effects of the sun. Radicchio contains a significant amount of vitamin A, or retinol, whose precursor is precisely beta-carotene.

2) Rocket salad. In less high quantities, also in the rocket vitamin A is contained. Defined in some areas of Italy also ruchetta, arughetta or rugola, it is a vegetable belonging to the family of Cruciferae and is characterized by its light and crunchy consistency and for the its bitter and spicy flavor. Its season is just the summer, so let’s take advantage now to fill it up.

3) Broccoli. The whole Brassicaceae family or cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli are rich in beta-carotene but not only, also in selenium, a mineral salt that acts as a cleaner against free radicals, working in synergy with vitamin E. Although they are typically winter vegetables they do not need particular temperatures to be cultivated therefore they can be found in a good part of the year.

4) Dried fruit. Walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, pistachios and so on. In dried fruit we find a significant amount of vitamin E and have an antioxidant effect that helps protect the lipid layer of the skin, providing a shield against skin aggressions.

5) Extra virgin olive oil. Finally, let’s not forget to season our dishes with extra virgin olive oil which when raw helps the skin to defend itself from UV rays as it is rich in polyphenols, substances with antioxidant properties.
