The Chinese New Year, also called lunar new year or spring festival, is one of the traditional Chinese holidays and is celebrated on the first day of the first month of the Chinese year. This date varies according to the lunar calendar used in China and corresponds to the period between January 21 and February 20 of our calendar. In recent years, it is fashionable to celebrate this moment also in the countries of the West with the strong increase in the Chinese community.

This year will be the year of the monkey according to the Chinese calendar and begins on February 8th. The ways to celebrate this event are different and may involve different rituals ranging from masquerading to preparing typical Chinese dishes in order to completely immerse yourself in the climate of China.

One of the typical rituals of the Chinese New Year is the lantern festival which consists of the closing of the New Year which corresponds to the arrival of the full moon. During this celebration there are children who carry colored lanterns parading in a nice and colorful parade. Another tradition is to exchange a series of gifts enclosed in small red packages delivered to married couples.

To celebrate the Chinese New Year at home, just decorate your home with the typical red paper lanterns. In any case, the theme of red will be taken up throughout the house as it symbolizes good luck, you can also add lotus flowers to beautify your home.

You can also prepare an excellent buffet that recalls the Chinese tradition, the suitable drink for this meal are Jiu and daikon which symbolize longevity. Also on your table there must be rice that guarantees harmony, red chillies that wish good luck, finally fish and chicken served whole in order to remember unity and prosperity.
