At the end of the study, their hair was thicker than at the beginning.

The same conclusion was reached by research conducted in 2019. 340 participants performed scalp massage twice a day to alleviate hair loss. 69 percent participants reported that their baldness had improved.

The benefits of scalp massage for hair growth focus primarily on the hair follicles. This is where every hair begins. According to research, scalp massage increases hair thickness by stretching hair follicular cells. This, in turn, stimulates the hair follicles to produce thicker hair.

How to properly perform a scalp massage? Fingertips or massager

Many people also find that scalp massage is helpful in dilating the blood vessels under the skin. Thanks to this, it also stimulates hair growth. However, if we want to achieve the best results, it is also important to know how to perform a scalp massage. Traditional massage involves using only the fingertips. We use them to apply light pressure to the scalp, making small circles. It can be performed both on dry hair and while washing the head. Just remember that it should last at least five minutes. You can also use a special scalp massager. They are available as brushes or lightweight rubber massagers.

Although massagers are usually safe to use, unwanted side effects may occur. They are usually the result of usage error. We should remember not to put too much force into the massage. Too strong pressure or too vigorous a rhythm may not only damage the hair follicles, but also cause skin damage and bruising in the area. The massager should not be used on open wounds and infections. So if we have scalp problems or any injury, we should talk to our doctor before using the massager.
