1. Parisian (French) knot

The simplest option that fits most scarves, from the thinnest to the heaviest. Fold the scarf in half, drape it over your shoulders and pass the loose ends through the loop.

2. Buff

There are ready-made buffs on sale – trumpet-shaped scarves. But an ordinary long scarf can be tied so that it resembles a wide fabric necklace. Wrap the accessory around your neck and tuck the loose ends inside the loop. Adjust the diameter of the loop as you wish: in the cold season, you can wrap the scarf tightly around your neck; on a warm autumn day, you can tie it loosely.

3. With belt

If it's not cold outside and there's no need to cover your neck, a scarf can be used simply as an addition to your look. Drape it over your shoulders, bringing the ends of equal length down the sides, and tie it with a belt at your waist.

4. Scarf bow

The method is suitable for thin scarves and stoles. Lightweight fabric can be tied like a large bow on the chest. It is important to consider proportions so that there are no other volumetric accents. Tie the scarf casually: asymmetry will only be beneficial, and a perfectly adjusted bow will be more likely to be associated with a naive child’s accessory, inappropriate for an adult.

5. Slight negligence

Scarves are the ideal accessory for creating layered looks, which stylists have recognized as a trend for several seasons. Try wrapping the scarf loosely around your neck, with one loose end down the front and the other down your back.

6. Free knot

A simple and quick way to tie a scarf in an original way. Drape it around your neck. Tie a knot at one end in the chest area. Pass the other end through the resulting loop. Flatten the outside for volume.

7. Double knot

The double knot provides good protection from the wind. Wrap the scarf around your neck, making a loop at the front. Twist the loose ends together and tie in a knot just below the wrap around your neck. The longer the scarf, the more voluminous the composition will be.

8. Triple suspension

This scarf can be tied once and not untied, so you can wear it every day like a snood. Suitable for long and thin scarves, looks beautiful with fringe. Place the scarf around your neck and tie a knot at each end. Then tie them together with a third knot in the middle. Thread one end of the fabric through the resulting loop and straighten the scarf.

9. Knot at the back

Front knots are always relevant, but you can try something new, especially since designers offer this method of winding in the most trendy collections of the fall season. Wrap the scarf around your neck in one or two layers depending on the length and tie a knot at the back. This option works best with clothes without a hood.

10. Triangle

This method is good for square stole scarves. Fold the accessory diagonally to form a triangle. Leave a corner on the chest, and wrap the ends around the neck and hide under the voluminous fabric in front.

11. Instead of a hat

Too voluminous knitted scarves are not suitable for this purpose; use any thin stoles with a length of 130 cm. Burberry, autumn—winter 2024/25

When the scarf is wide enough, it can be used as a head scarf by wrapping the ends around the neck and tying them at the back or front, depending on your preference.

12. Light volume

Take a thin, wide scarf (the longer, the better). Throw it over your head, cross the ends in front, bring them back and throw them back over your shoulders to your chest. Pull the scarf off your head over the criss-crossed ends of the fabric. Spread the layers, creating airy volume.

13. Narrow scarf

This is a decorative accessory that is beautiful in early autumn, when it is still warm outside and you do not expect functionality from a scarf. It doesn't heat up, but it makes the image memorable and stylish. If neutral colors predominate in your wardrobe, knit a narrow, bright scarf in one turn.

14. Scarf-cape

A long, wide scarf can match the color of a coat or sweater, creating voluminous asymmetry. Rabanne, autumn—winter 2024/25

In contrast to the previous trend, there is an equally interesting one when a scarf becomes part of outerwear. It should be long and wide, reminiscent of a blanket. Wrap the accessory around your neck, throw one end over your shoulder, and leave the other in front.

15. Two scarves

This option will help not only keep you warm, but also add color accents to combine with other accessories. Holzweiler, autumn—winter 2024/25

A double scarf is a stylish layering technique. To repeat it, just select two scarves of approximately the same width and tie them around your neck so that both are visible.

How to tie a scarf: 15 ways and expert advice

Asya Solovyeva, stylist and designer, founder of the design studio Solovyeva bureau

“Accent voluminous scarves with tassels are trendy now. They are worn over a coat, tied in a voluminous knot or thrown one end over the shoulder. The second end can be tucked under the strap, thus emphasizing the waist and slightly securing the scarf. Long scarves look more interesting with a long coat – they have more variations, you can wrap them around the neck several times or once and leave long ends in front, which lengthen the silhouette. Thin long scarves are also coming into fashion: they can be plain or striped – they will interestingly complement the image as a newfangled accessory.

There are many ways, the main thing is not to tighten the knots too much and leave beautiful elongated ends or tuck them under the knot or under the collar so that the scarf does not look childish or sloppy. If the scarf allows, make one turn around the neck, then you can tie a knot and throw the end of the scarf over…

About author

I pass by being that person liable to duty, but who cannot resist the flights of imagination. I have always loved the legends, the myths and the stories of the old and distant times with my whole being. In high school I fell in love with the history of art and I made it the object of my university studies. Once I graduated, I dusted off an old flame: that of children's literature. I rediscovered the beauty and importance of illustrated books and books, where, to a quality text, images are added that give strength and enrich what is narrated with meaning. It can be said that illustrators often make real works of art! It was then that I decided to follow this passion of mine both as a volunteer, entering the ranks of readers born to read, and in my work as a librarian. I am a greedy devoured of illustrated books (I have an absolute weakness for the stories that have bears or wolves as protagonists!), I love simple stories that know how to strike and surprise. I hate pigeon-holed books in a specific age group and readers in a certain category of readings. I think everyone is different and deserves to choose (and be chosen by the books) without constraints, in complete freedom! [email protected]
