Debate between Gabriel Attal and Jordan Bardella: how do we recognize ambition in a person?

This evening on Europe 2, the Prime Minister and the head of the National Rally for Europeans list will come face to face for a highly anticipated debate. But what we will definitely see is a showdown between two young political leaders with biting ambition. What makes an ambitious personality and what do they have that we don't? We asked our psychologist the question.

Gabriel Attal, Prime Minister, facing Jordan Bardella, head of the National Rally list, it's this evening on Europe 2, for an expected debate on the sidelines of the Europeans. But beyond the (very different) ideas promoted on both sides, it is also the opportunity to see two young politicians (35 and 28 years old) confront each other who are aiming for an exceptional destiny: to climb the steps one by one to reach (who knows) the highest step in the State. But what makes some people ambitious? Certain characteristics are common to both men, as Amélie Boukhobza, clinical psychologist, explains.

Determination, work, networks… Ambitious people leave nothing to chance

Our expert confirms that there is no need to come from the same background or share the same ideologies to demonstrate ambition. On the other hand, Gabriel Attal and Jordan Bardella share several characteristics.

  • First of all, they are people determined, persevering and tenacious. “Often ready to do anything to achieve their goals!”;
  • They are deeply passionate by what they do and find their motivation within themselves. This is an unstoppable condition;
  • They have a major advantage: a very clear vision what they want to achieve and set specific goals accordingly. This clarity allows them to chart their path and stay focused on their aspirations;
  • They like risk. Ambitious people do not hesitate to take calculated risks, understanding that innovation and success come through this;
  • They remain very flexible. They are open to learning and know how to adapt to new situations. For ever more relevance and competitiveness! ;
  • They are real hard workers. They envisage their success thanks to a rigorous, disciplined and relentless journey;
  • They know the importance and strength of the network. “They surround themselves with influential and competent people to achieve their goals, and spend time refining their network”;
  • They are not afraid of failure, and see difficulty as an opportunity. “These are people who have learned to be resilientthey always bounce back stronger”;
  • Finally, they often exert a certain influence on those around them. Their leadership qualities inspire and motivate others to follow them.

Good in his body, good in his head!

A character forged by education

Do you envy this ability to succeed? But what can we do to be a little more ambitious? Is it innate or is it learned? For Amélie Boukhobza, nothing is decided in advance but a “ground” in which we build ourselves would still be very important:

“Ambition can be influenced by several factors, including environment and life experiences obviously. But, it is clear that education plays a crucial role, depending on whether parents or mentors have encouraged the child to autonomy, resilience, perseverance, and self-confidence obviously !”

It is therefore always possible to draw inspiration from ambitious people, and to set precise objectives, to constantly challenge oneself, take risks, etc. It can change your daily life. “But to be at the level of ambition of Gabriel Attal and Jordan Bardella, you have to have a somewhat forged mind…”, concludes our expert all the same.
