What are the dangers of not cleaning your brushes? The consequences are unpleasant

Many people still do not pay attention to how important it is to wash brushes. However, it turns out that they can become a real habitat for bacteria and fungi. These potential contaminants may come not only from cosmetics, but also from our skin. Therefore, it is important to maintain proper hygiene. Both germs and fungi can get onto makeup tools in different ways. All it takes is for someone else to use our brushes for microorganisms to be found on them. Also, tiny mites that are associated with some rashes and acne can end up in the sponge or on your brushes.

It is worth knowing that contaminated lip cosmetics, in particular, may pose a risk of infection. Lipsticks are often contaminated with bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus (staphylococcus aureus) and Staphylococcus epidermidis (cutaneous staphylococcus). In the case of low-quality cosmetics, this risk increases. Makeup brushes come into contact with sensitive areas such as the eyes, mouth and nose, which are particularly susceptible to infections. Contaminated brushes that carry microorganisms may cause:

  • ropni
  • skin infections
  • rashes
  • skin lesions

How often should you wash your brushes? The answer may surprise you

So how can we take care of our brushes so as not to endanger our skin? First of all, you should not lend them to anyone. We all have microbes on our skin, and sharing brushes is sharing germs. Brushes should be cleaned with hot soapy water. Now the question is, how often should you do this? This may come as a surprise to some, but brushes should be cleaned at least once a week. People who wear make-up more often may have to do it more often. Brushes used to apply liquid or cream products should be cleaned after each use. If someone used our brushes, we should do it almost immediately after use. Additionally, if we have had any infection, we should remember to thoroughly clean the brushes after the infection has disappeared.

How to clean brushes? Simple instructions

  • Fill a bowl with lukewarm water and add a tablespoon of gentle shampoo or antibacterial soap.
  • Soak the tip well in a bowl.
  • Rinse the tips of the brushes under running water.
  • Continue shampooing and rinsing each brush until the water runs clear.
  • Squeeze excess moisture with a clean, dry paper towel.
  • Lay the brushes flat to dry on a towel, with the tips hanging over the edge of the counter.
  • It is worth remembering that brushes do not need to be washed with micellar fluid. It is expensive and not necessary at all. The same benefits can be achieved with cheaper detergents. Disinfection methods such as germicidal soap are very good at reducing the number of microorganisms on brushes and sponges.
