Tok beauty: a tip for perfectly defined lips (guaranteed without smudging)

Tok beauty: a tip for perfectly defined lips (guaranteed without smudging)

How do you apply your lipstick? A harmless question that could still call into question your daily makeup routine. This is what British make-up artist Katie Jane Hughes suggests, whose tip recently went viral: you should use a very specific part of the lipstick to obtain precise contours, without any smudging.

Let the one who has never gone overboard when applying their lipstick cast the first stone! A blunder known to ordinary mortals, all the more disturbing when made with a matte lipstick without transfer – disaster guaranteed. It is then impossible not to have to remove everything and start again. To avoid this inconvenience – and this waste of time – simply rely on the valuable advice of professional makeup artist Katie Jane Hughes, followed by nearly 300,000 people on TikTok (and more than 900,000 on Instagram). This recommends in particular changing the method of applying your lipstick, guaranteeing a perfect line without the risk of smudging.

You've probably already wondered why lipsticks have such a shape, namely one side with a flat surface and another more angular? It could be, without even needing to go back into the entire history of the famous stick, that it is to optimize its application. This is what Katie Jane Hughes reveals to her subscribers in a tutorial viewed by more than 20,000 people, with the aim of improving (again and again) the beauty routine of several million social users around the world.

I have a slightly different lipstick application tip for you this morning“, begins the specialist in her video. And explains: “We are not going to apply our lipstick with this part of the stick (showing the flat side). When you apply the product with this part you have reduced visibility on the lip line, while if you turn it upside down this angle allows you to see everything a little better“. The make-up artist explains that this application method allows her to have more control, and to obtain a precise and careful lip contour.

As you will have understood, it is purely and simply a matter of not using the flat surface of the lipstick, as is customary to do, but rather the angular part. Which not only leaves more visibility, but also allows a better defined outline without the risk of burring. Note that it is however possible to turn the lipstick over and use the flat surface to color the lower lip.

If we can consider that this tip is in no way surprising, and is quite logical, we can also think that ordinary mortals do not (necessarily) apply it on a daily basis. “I tried ! Best trick in the world!“, “I've always applied lipstick this way! My friends made fun of me! (…) It makes more sense this way“, or “I just tried…and it's my new favorite tip“, are among the comments posted under the video.

This is not the first time that a lipstick application method has gone viral on the Chinese social network. In 2021, a technique consisting of sliding a cotton swab between your lips before applying your lipstick had generated several million views, demonstrating the desire of social users to find tips to put an end to unsightly smudges.
