Falling in love cannot be explained and sometimes love is impossible, for different reasons. So how can we overcome this ordeal and forget our loved one? Johanna Rozenblum, psychologist, gives us her advice.

What is impossible love?

Sometimes in some relationships, both people share feelings but their love is impossible, due to special circumstances. This may be due to a difference in age, culture, religion, geographical distance or even an incompatibility of character.

Sadder, some people fall in love but it is not reciprocal, they also find themselves confronted with an impossible love, in the strict sense of the term. How to overcome this ordeal?

How to overcome this situation?

In the case where love is present for both parties, the relationship which has barely started is ultimately doomed to failure, but also if the loved one is not interested, the best thing to do is to accept the situation . “You have to face reality and accept it and not be in denial or avoidance and not start a process of mourning in love, this only delays the suffering and makes you make bad decisions.” director Johanna Rozenblum.

The second advice from our expert is to “distance yourself”. “We have to empty our minds to move forward and to relearn a daily life where we prove to ourselves that we can exist without the other.” she adds. “This also allows you to gradually open yourself up to new encounters, new outings which could allow you to find love elsewhere.”.

Johanna Rozenblum's third piece of advice is to avoid ruminating, and being in remorse or regret. “This leaves us to develop sterile hypotheses and theories which lead to nothing except a feeling of anger or guilt which can ultimately lead to depressive anxiety symptoms.

And finally, “if it is too difficult, do not hesitate to meet a psychologist, to discuss your difficulties and manage to overcome this situation as best as possible” she concludes.
