Coffee grounds can also be used to make face masks or skin care products, which have an extremely positive effect. Among other things, it has antibacterial and antioxidant effects.
In a recent study, an Indonesian research team examined the extent to which coffee grounds are suitable for producing natural skin care products. The very promising results have been published in the specialist magazine “NST Proceeding”.
Coffee grounds for healthy skin?
More than ten years ago, a study provided initial evidence that skin care products could be made from coffee grounds.
An emulsion made from coffee grounds brought about promising improvements in the skin’s sebum levels and, according to the researchers, was well tolerated.
Face mask made from coffee grounds
The new study examined the processing of coffee grounds into a skin care compound. The coffee grounds were mixed with chitosan to create a biofilm, which was then used as a mask to peel off the skin, the team reports.
Demonstrable positive effect
The researchers explain that this face mask demonstrated a “strong” to “very strong” antibacterial and antioxidant effect and at the same time contributed to improving the so-called SPF protection. Based on the study results, the coffee grounds face mask is recommended as a skin care product.
The facial skin is one of the most sensitive areas of the human body and sometimes skin care products cause unpleasant side effects, which is why it is important to thoroughly research the ingredients used. The new study makes a significant contribution to the coffee grounds face mask. (fp)
