Met Gala 2023: also the cat of Karl Lagerfeld on the catwalk (along with other incredible looks)

And once again this year the Met Gala has come to an end, the event that more than any other is able to catalyze attention on the more eccentric, creative and majestic side of high fashion. Who wore the best look dedicated to Karl Lagerfeld in this 2023 edition?

The Met Gala 2023

The wait has been endless: since the theme of the Met Gala 2023 was announced, namely A Line of Beauty, the exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum dedicated to the immortal designer Karl Lagerfeld, fashion and event enthusiasts have gone crazy, theorizing and hypothesizing which incredible archival looks the stars of the moment would have fished out for the occasion. A lot of attention especially to the stylist’s historical muses, such as, for example, Naomi Campbell, Cara Delevingne and Gigi Hadid, all present at the Met last May 1st. What fashion experts didn’t expect though, perhaps, was the presence of Choupette, Karl Lagerfeld’s cat that has become an iconic symbol of his fashion, on the catwalk; not of the cat in the flesh, but more of a re-enactment of him. Confused?

Choupette the cat by Doja Cat and Jared Leto

We’ll explain what we’re talking about right now: Choupette, the designer’s ice-eyed white cat, who lived a life of luxury and privilege, was often associated with the image of Karl Lagerfeld himself. For this reason, in a moment of total celebration of the artist in question, a couple of guests thought well of dressing like his cat, and they did so following two very different paths. We are talking about Jared Leto and Doja Cat, two characters who, especially in recent years, are making themselves known, as well as for their acting and musical talents, also for the impact they are having in the world of more creative fashion.

After showing up covered in red diamonds from head to toe at Paris Fashion Week 2023, Doja Cat decided to wear a long silver bodycon dress, prosthetic face makeup and cat ears to play Choupette, complete with a “meow” during interviews on the red carpet. Jared Leto, on the other hand, played it all by wearing a realistic, hairy and oversized cat costume.

Kristen Stewart and Jessica Chastain transform into Karl Lagerfeld

Actress Kristen Stewart has been an ambassador of the Chanel brand for years, of which Karl Lagerfeld himself was creative director for a few years; the homage that the woman has decided to pay almost perfectly recreates one of the classic outfits worn by the stylist for photoshoots and events and, probably, in everyday life. Jessica Chastain also wanted to contribute to the “Lagerfeld vibes” by showing off a platinum (and momentary) hair like hers and a pair of sunglasses typical of the designer’s looks.

Pedro Pascal “invents shorts”

In a world of black suits and ties, fortunately, there is also Pedro Pascal. The men invited to the Met Gala often limit themselves to the usual looks, and avoid daring (Lil Nas X and Billy Porter are more than exceptional cases), therefore, when we see something slightly different from the usual, we get excited; when it is worn by Pedro Pascal, even more so. As already said on TikTok, “thanks to the actor for inventing shorts (and how to wear them)”; Valentino designer look.

Anne Hathaway is resurrected in Versace

“Mother is mothering” can be read on US social networks in front of the images of Anne Hathaway at the Met Gala 2023: it is a way of saying that transforms the person into an icon to idolize, into our “mother” who does her duty, i.e. make use of the stunning looks. In this case, it is a Versace loosely inspired by brooch dresses.

The Kardashian Sisters Tribute – Jenner

The Kardashian – Jenner sisters are often the most eagerly awaited at the Met Gala, given their ability to reinvent out-of-the-ordinary looks and set the year’s trends. The 2023 edition was attended by the model Kendall Jenner, the influencer Kim Kardashian and the entrepreneur Kylie Jenner; the three talked about different ways to pay homage to Karl Lagerfeld. If the former wanted to dare with an unconventional look, albeit dedicated to the designer’s most typical stylistic features, Kardashian covered herself with the classic Chanel pearls; Kylie Jenner, however, has opted for elegant simplicity.

All the other hottest looks, from Lil Nas X to Jenna Ortega

Many other guests gave themselves over to mad joy, some interpreting their own version as gothic and “Lagerfeldian” as possible (as Jenna Ortega did in Tom Ford), others wanted to wear archive pieces, see Dua Lipa wearing the dress Original Chanel, the one initially sported by Cindy Crawford; then there are those who wanted to literally dedicate their dress to Karl like Lily Collins and those who, finally, were simply themselves (with all the related oddities: and yes, we’re talking about Lil Nas X).
