The streaming platform Netflix can be an incredible place to get lost, but also dense and dark. In the jungle of entertainment it is difficult to extricate yourself if you don’t know the right tools; we teach you how to do it through secret codes.
Netflix codes: what are they?
Netflix has just recently shut down its DVD rental service, active since 1998: through the system of the (today) streaming platform, a title was chosen online and received directly in one’s letterbox, at home. Each of these DVDs was traceable via an identifier that was automatically generated based on the category to which it belonged, as the site “had a public-facing genre tree that linked to all the various types of movies and TV shows.” We are talking about these genres when we tell you that certain films, which seem hidden in the caves of the algorithm or which we believe are not present on Netflix, are actually there: just search with the right code.
The 2023 codes to find movies on the platform
We are talking about 36,000 Netflix codes dedicated to specific categories, collections, dossiers and films in the catalogue; this, at least, abroad. In Italy, in fact, the codes are smaller precisely because of the reduced catalog it presents compared to the USA, for example (1,700 titles in Italy against 5,000 overseas). The question now is: how do you use the codes? First, there are two options: via the app or via the web. In the first case, just type the code you are interested in in the search bar that Netflix makes available; in the second case, however, you will have to type “netflix.com/browse/genre/” with the code at the end in the address string of your search engine.

Using the codes can be useful especially if we have been using Netflix for a long time: using its own (sacrosanct and very useful) algorithm, in fact, the application specializes in our tastes based on the films we see. Convenience is undeniable, but the risk of missing out on some pearls that interest us is high, even if they go beyond the mold of our usual preferences.
