Pumpkin Spice Make-up: the gourmet beauty inspiration that marks the end of summer

The summer season is not yet over and beauty fans are already turning to fall and its warm, shimmering colors. The proof with the latest trend, ‘Pumpkin Spice Make-up’, a true ode to the reflections of the hot and comforting drink which gave it its name, and which announces the imminence of Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Summer has proven to be particularly prolific in terms of beauty trends, with an unprecedented craze for makeup inspired by drinks of all kinds – but especially milky ones. We saw it with espresso make-up, a beauty treatment evoking the deep colors of the eponymous beverage, matcha latte nails, milky green nails, syrup nails, a syrupy-looking manicure, strawberry make-up or even cherry cola lips. Not a week went by without a summer drink, hot or cold, making its way to the beauty aisle. And this even if latte make-up seems to have dominated all the debates, rising to the top of the summer’s key trends with – all the same – more than 400 million views on TikTok.

TikTok makeup trends are moving into fall

But it seems that users of social platforms are done with the summer season, preferring to turn to fall. A new period marked by warm, changing and flamboyant colors, like those observed in nature… or in their favorite drink. Because, yes, it is indeed a drink straight from the United States, marking the kick-off of the Halloween season (it generally makes its return at the end of August or beginning of September), which is at the origin of this new beauty inspiration: the Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Very popular in Uncle Sam’s country, at least since its launch at Starbucks just twenty years ago, the drink is originally composed of coffee, semi-skimmed milk, foam or whipped cream, and pumpkin syrup. spice (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, pumpkin puree), with or without spices as decoration. It is these ‘spicy’ colors which are today at the heart of what some are already calling the “fall beauty trend”, the ‘Pumpkin Spice Make-up’, or ‘Pumpkin Spice Latte Make-up’ for purists, whose hashtags are (already) flirting with the million views on the Chinese social network TikTok.

Comforting makeup

If this makeup inspiration is still far from enjoying the same success as the famous hot drink (more than 500 million views to date), it is clear that beauty content creators have seized on it to make it a star of the season. And for good reason, it is directly inspired by the colors which symbolize the changes in nature, but also (and above all) by the pumpkins, gourds, and other squashes that we find in the dishes concocted at this time of year. As such, orange is obviously there (no flashy shades, just warm tones) as are copper colors, with a few glitters here and there for the festive side.

There is not really a precise technique to follow to achieve a ‘Pumpkin Spice Make-up’, other than opting for monochrome makeup made from earthy, orange, coppery tones, and above all to create a harmonious and warm ensemble (complexion, eyelids, lips), as comforting as the drink you sip by the fire (or in the metro, it depends). To avoid making a mistake, some apply their bronzer directly to the eyelids, while others use an orange blush to highlight the cheekbones while opting for an orange-brown for the mouth. In all cases, the beauty must recall the spices that can be found in the iconic beverage.

Be careful not to turn pumpkin skin!

Something that should not pose any difficulty as brands are working to market eye shadow palettes and lipsticks using the codes, and names, of these autumnal spices. Be careful, however, this is not about ending up with an unappealing orange complexion, a misstep you should not make when you are reproducing this beauty treatment which truly officially announces the end of summer.
