Mestemacher GmbH has launched a recall for a bread because an allergen was not labeled on the packaging. Consumption of the product could lead to health impairments for certain people.
According to a letter published by the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) on its portal “lebensmittelnning.de”, the company Mestemacher GmbH from Gütersloh (North Rhine-Westphalia) is recalling the product Mestemacher “Our Pure Carrot” 300g.
Allergen not marked
Only the production batch with the best before date (MHD) 01/15/24 and the lot number 180701..AE is affected. The coding is on the front of the pack.
Due to a declaration error, the ingredient labeling for this product was inadvertently not completely correct. The bread contains 3 percent walnuts, which are not mentioned in the item’s ingredient list.
People who do not suffer from a walnut intolerance or allergy can eat the bread without hesitation.
People who are affected by a walnut intolerance or allergy should not consume the batch mentioned above.
If you purchased a pack of the affected production batch, return it to the store where it was purchased for a refund, the company writes.
Different complaints possible
As the German Allergy and Asthma Association (DAAB) writes on its website, allergies to nuts are a problem for children and adults because they can lead to severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis).
Depending on the degree of sensitization and the trigger of the allergy, different symptoms appear. Especially with isolated nut allergies (in childhood), there is often a risk of a severe allergic reaction.
Possible symptoms can affect the skin, breathing, stomach and intestines and the circulatory system, among other things. (ad)
