A dietary supplement is currently being recalled because the product exceeds the limit for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). These substances are considered carcinogenic and mutagenic.
The Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) reports on its portal “www.lebensmittelwarning.de” about a recall of a dietary supplement.
Regulations not adhered to
The company Unkuri Wholesale from Nuremberg is therefore recalling the product “Spirulina” from the importer “SIA Global Medicus” from Riga, Latvia, and the manufacturer “Kvadrat-C” from Russia “due to non-compliance with the provisions of the regulation on dietary supplements”.
According to the BVL, the reason for the recall is that PAH (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) limits have been exceeded.
The affected product with the best before dates (best before dates) 04.2025 and 07.2025 contains 60 tablets with 509 milligrams each.

Carcinogenic and mutagenic
As the BVL explains on its website, PAH is a group of chemical compounds that all have a similar structure.
According to experts, the compounds should, if possible, not be present in food and other products that people come into contact with due to their potentially toxic properties.
The Federal Environment Agency reports on its website that PAHs are carcinogenic, they can alter the genetic material and have properties that are toxic to reproduction. (ad)
