Robodog, AR glasses and skin tone map: new TECNO products at MWC-2024

The TECNO brand presented products and technologies from a variety of fields: the new TECNO POVA 6 Pro 5G smartphone, the Dynamic 1 robotic dog (“Speaker 1”)the industry’s first Pocket Go augmented reality glasses compatible with a handheld gaming console on Windows (“Pocket Go”). The company also showed off its PolarAce imaging technology (“PolarAce”) и Universal Tone (“Universal Tone”) — a color map of skin tones to improve color rendering when taking photos.

Robodog Dynamic 1 (“Speaker 1”) is the brand’s first robotic dog, which over time is intended to become a full-fledged personal assistant, like other robots of a similar class of devices. The dog can run at speeds of up to 3.7 m/s, deftly climb stairs, give a paw and perform other commands – they are recognized by microphones based on artificial intelligence. The robot’s “eyes” are an Intel® RealSense™ D430 camera, infrared and optical sensors. Interestingly, if the battery runs out (works for an hour and a half), you can quickly change it for a new one without waiting for charging.

The TECNO POVA 6 Pro 5G smartphone is able to further strengthen the company’s position in the mid-price segment: the new product features a fresh MediaTek Dimensity 6080 processor (“MediaTek Dimensity 6080”), as well as a large amount of internal and RAM memory 256+12 GB expandable up to 24 GB. The 6000 mAh battery deserves special attention. Despite the significant capacity, its thickness is only 7.88 mm and the device weighs 195 g, making it one of the thinnest and most compact devices in its segment. A full battery charge will last for more than 11 hours of gaming, 14 hours of video broadcasting or 31 hours of calls – POVA 6 Pro 5G is designed for a total of one and a half days of work on a single charge and can retain at least 80% of the battery capacity after five years of use.

The capacious battery is complemented by 70W ultra-fast charging, which allows you to charge the device from zero to 50% in just 20 minutes and up to 100% in just 50 minutes. And the 10 W reverse charging function using a cable helps charge wireless headphones, smart watches, bracelets and other gadgets, including other smartphones.

In turn, Pocket Go (“Pocket Go”) became the industry’s first augmented reality (AR) glasses compatible with a portable gaming console running the Windows operating system. Having put them on, you find yourself as if in front of a 215-inch TV at a distance of 6 m – the gaming experience will be like in a cinema hall. For complete immersion in the gameplay, AI algorithms that track head movement and vibrations are used.

Another new product of the exhibition is a color map of 2838 skin tones, which the brand called Universal Tone (“Universal Tone”). It is based on a study in which the shades of a wide variety of skins were analyzed and borderline and intermediate colors were identified in the CIELAB space (SIELAB, a color space developed by International Commission on Illumination). Ultimately, TECNO created 268 types of skin tone patches based on this extensive database.

You can use the map to evaluate the color accuracy of images during and after shooting, as well as to fine-tune image processing technology algorithms.

PolarAce image processing technology was also presented (“PolarAce”) based on a Sony chip – it solves the problem of the lack of computing power in traditional processors to create video of the highest quality. TECNO PolarAce uses the latest AI technology to eliminate these and other common problems. As a result, a smartphone with this technology – TECNO CAMON 30 Premier 5G – supports full-screen video shooting simultaneously in 4K, HDR and with smart noise reduction, and also provides HDR video playback up to 4K/30 frames per second. The new product will be available in the smartphone in the second quarter of 2024.
