Vaseline, although it comes from the distillation of crude oil, has long been used in cosmetics. It is colorless or can range from white to brown and is completely odorless. Its greatest advantage is its availability and affordable price – a jar of this product can be purchased for just a few zlotys.

Petrolatum. Composition and properties

Vaseline, also known as petrolatum, is a petroleum product. It is a thick, transparent substance with a soft, slightly greasy consistency. Vaseline is a mixture of hydrocarbons obtained from the petroleum refining process. It usually contains mainly paraffins, alkyl waxes and naphthenes. When used in cosmetics, it is usually highly refined, which means that all impurities have been removed. Pure, refined petroleum jelly is safe for use on the skin.

Natural Vaseline is colorless and odorless. In the cosmetic version, it is often completely transparent or has a slightly yellowish tint. In some cosmetic products, it may be combined with other ingredients such as essential oils, flavors or dyes to adapt the product to a specific use. By itself it does not contain vitamins, minerals or other active ingredients. Its main function is to provide a protective barrier on the skin’s surface, which helps prevent moisture loss.

Vaseline is usually well tolerated by most skin types, including sensitive skin, and rarely causes allergic reactions. Thanks to this, it is often used as an ingredient in products for dry and sensitive skin. It is also used in medicine, for example as an emollient in wound and burn care products, or as a base for some medicines and ointments.

Why is it worth using Vaseline on your face?

Vaseline is an excellent care cosmetic, often used as a base for balms, creams and masks. It is characterized by good skin tolerance and minimal risk of allergic reactions. It has a moisturizing and oiling effect, providing the skin with protection against cold and wind. It is ideal for people with dry, sensitive and mature skin. However, it is not recommended for people with oily, acne-prone or blackhead-prone skin.

Slugging – a revolution in skin care

Slugging involves applying a thin layer of Vaseline to your face at night, once or twice a week, especially in winter. After removing makeup, cleansing your face with a scrub and applying the cream, apply Vaseline and leave it on your skin until the morning. In the morning, wash your face thoroughly to remove any product residue.

Benefits of slugging

This simple treatment relieves irritations, softens the skin, supports regenerative processes and has a rejuvenating effect. Vaseline facial helps rebuild the natural protective layer of the epidermis and protects the skin against dehydration.
