The three personalities who most influenced fashion and beauty in 2023

Their names are Beyoncé, Margot Robbie, and Pamela Anderson, and have managed to rise to the top of fashion and beauty trends over the last twelve months, appearing among the most influential celebrities of the year. Whether due to the release of a film, a phenomenal tour, or a simple photo taken on a street corner, these personalities have been talked about to the point of being and remaining associated forever in 2023.

If trends emerge en masse today on social networks, there is no doubt that public figures always have the power to make them viral, if not to popularize them. Some can even pride themselves on transforming everything they touch – or what they promote – into real fashion phenomena. This is the case of these three celebrities who have left their mark on the history of fashion and beauty, at least for the year 2023.

Margot Robbie aka Barbie

If you haven’t discovered “Barbie” in theaters, you’ve at least heard of it. It’s impossible to have missed this phenomenon, named the most profitable feature film of the year, which was reflected in fashion by a burst of pink worn by one of the stars of the film, Margot Robbie. Not content with showing off in exceptional outfits, including numerous Chanel dresses, of which she is the muse, during the previews of the comedy by Greta Gerwig, Margot Robbie also shone on the red carpets of a host of fashion events, each more popular than the last.

From the Oscars where she caused a sensation in a long black sequined dress by Armani Privé to the Met Gala where she wore a vintage creation from Chanel, to the Chanel Cruise 2024 fashion show in Los Angeles where she stood out in jeans and visible lingerie, Margot Robbie clearly put on a show this year. On TikTok, which has become a true incubator of fashion and beauty trends, not only does the hashtag #barbiecore now have more than a billion views, but #margotrobbie now peaks at nearly 14.5 billion views, including 340 million dedicated to the hashtag #margotrobbiebarbie.

Beyoncé’s parade

It was not on a catwalk that the American singer with tens of millions of albums sold stood out this year, but on stage. On the occasion of her “Renaissance World Tour”, her world tour event, Queen B embarked on a veritable sartorial marathon, with hundreds of outfits created to measure by the greatest fashion designers and fashion houses. In total, this series of concerts allowed him to perform no less than 56 fashion shows with music, a record for the interpreter of “Break My Soul”, followed by more than 319 million people on Instagram.

Among the multitude of outfits in which Beyoncé appeared on stage, we note clothes and accessories specially designed by Jean Paul Gaultier, Balmain, Schiaparelli, Mugler, Jacquemus, Marine Serre, Paco Rabanne, Loewe, Alexander McQueen, and we go on (many ). A veritable clothing marathon, as we have said, which also allowed these major houses and designers to gain – a little more – in visibility.

Pamela Anderson au naturel

It’s an image that shouldn’t have attracted so much attention – why point the finger at a woman who doesn’t wear makeup? – but we must recognize that it propelled Pamela Anderson to the top of beauty trends this year. And not just any, since it is the ‘no make-up’ that the American star has put forward, an aesthetic bias which has made it possible to undermine, a little more, certain societal diktats. And this despite Pamela Anderson confiding to American Elle that she gradually abandoned her beauty treatments after the death of her make-up artist, Alexis Vogel.

This coup, as we could call it, dates back to last school year, during Paris Fashion Week dedicated to the spring-summer 2024 season. While Pamela Anderson is starring in a moving documentary in which she gives herself candidly, broadcast on Netflix since January 2023, she shows off several times without any trace of makeup during the fashion event of the year, causing a sensation in the media as well as on social networks. And it wasn’t a ‘one shot’: the actress repeated this feat in early December during the 2023 Fashion Awards. “An act of courage and rebellion”, as Jamie Lee Curtis called it on his Instagram account. “The natural beauty revolution has officially begun,” rejoiced the American actress. A revolution which should no longer be one, but which contributes to further shattering the many injunctions made to women.
