Theories and practice: anti-aging facial skin care “Uriage”

Theories of skin aging

According to the oxidative stress theory, dull complexion and loss of skin tone are signs of antioxidant deficiency. Residents of megacities are most exposed to free radicals, which attack skin cells every day. Of course, the human body has protective antioxidant systems that regularly repel such attacks (a healthy cell can withstand 10 thousand “attacks”), but with age they become less effective. The “counter-offensive” usually uses vitamins C, E and some plant extracts.

The theory of photoaging states that skin aging occurs under the influence of UV radiation: ultraviolet damages the cells of the epidermis, collagen and elastin, proteins lose their previous structure, and this leads to the appearance of wrinkles, vascular mesh and the development of pigmentation. In recent decades, “man-made” radiation has been added to natural radiation – the blue light of gadgets that people constantly use. Here, for example, retinol provides skin support.

The theory of hormonal aging suggests that cell metabolism slows down as we age. This leads to a decrease in the synthesis of structural fibers, as well as the formation of wrinkles and loss of elasticity: after 25 years, collagen production decreases by 1% annually, and in the first five years after menopause – by 30%. An effective solution is to use products with collagen peptides.

According to the theory of inflammatory aging, chronic inflammatory processes in the body lead to an increase in the activity of enzymes that destroy hyaluronic acid and dermal proteins. The synthesis of natural moisturizing factor and lipids is reduced: the skin retains its protective functions only with a sufficient level of hydration. Externally obtained hyaluronic acid helps maintain it.

Finally, some signs of aging may be multifactorial – in such cases it is difficult to determine which factor played a decisive role in aging in order to isolate them into a separate theory. For example, pigment spots can appear both as a result of excessive insolation, and due to chronic inflammation or changes in hormonal levels.

Application of theories in practice – scientific solution “Uriage”

Fortunately, for each factor of skin aging there is already an “antidote” in the form of individual active ingredients or their combinations. When creating their “elixirs of youth,” Uriage Dermatological Laboratories take into account all potential causes of skin aging and offer their scientific developments – proprietary patented complexes.

Take, for example, the “AGE ABSOLUTE” range, which includes a restorative cream and a night face mask. Together they increase collagen production sixfold, providing firmness and elasticity. In addition, the products maintain skin hydration, restore its radiance and prevent photoaging.

For such a multi-vector effect, the products included time-tested anti-aging assets (retinol, hyaluronic acid, procollagen peptide, vitamins C and E) and patented Uriage complexes. The latter includes Telomer Protect*, based on spirulina extract containing phycocyanin with antioxidant properties. Telomer Protect reduces cell damage due to UV rays and blue light emitted by gadgets. Its action is supported by a BLB (Blue Light Barrier) complex**, including plant extracts and pearlescent particles, which also limits the harmful effects of blue light.

Another important component of the formula is thermal water from an alpine spring in Uriage-les-Bains, optimally balanced in mineral composition. It protects the DNA of skin cells from oxidative stress, strengthens the protective barrier and prevents dehydration.

The updated anti-aging range “AGE LIFT” is also made using developments from Uriage Dermatological Laboratories. In addition to the already mentioned BLB, it includes the patented Filmexel*** complex (plant biopolymer), which protects the skin from toxins and impurities.

In addition, the products contain thermal water, low molecular weight hyaluronic acid, retinol (0.05%), as well as vitamins C, E and plant extracts with pronounced antioxidant properties. It is not surprising that after just two months the skin becomes three times more elastic.

The name of the range reflects the key effect of the care – the lifting effect, in which the oval of the face becomes clearer and the skin becomes smoother and more toned. Also, AGE LIFT products smooth out wrinkles, restore natural radiance and even tone, reduce age spots, strengthen the skin barrier and protect against environmental factors such as polluted air, UV rays and blue light emitted by computers and smartphones. The range’s formulas have been improved and now provide an even greater degree of product tolerance – they are suitable for caring for different skin types.

Eight AGE LIFT products, including serum, day creams (with SPF 30 and without filters), day smoothing emulsion, eye contour cream, night restorative cream, night peeling cream (with AHA acids) and filler for filling wrinkles, cover all skin care needs at any time of the year.

So, whatever the theories, practice shows that the right care with a scientific evidence base and carefully developed formulations will help, if not turn back time, then significantly slow it down.

About author

I pass by being that person liable to duty, but who cannot resist the flights of imagination. I have always loved the legends, the myths and the stories of the old and distant times with my whole being. In high school I fell in love with the history of art and I made it the object of my university studies. Once I graduated, I dusted off an old flame: that of children's literature. I rediscovered the beauty and importance of illustrated books and books, where, to a quality text, images are added that give strength and enrich what is narrated with meaning. It can be said that illustrators often make real works of art! It was then that I decided to follow this passion of mine both as a volunteer, entering the ranks of readers born to read, and in my work as a librarian. I am a greedy devoured of illustrated books (I have an absolute weakness for the stories that have bears or wolves as protagonists!), I love simple stories that know how to strike and surprise. I hate pigeon-holed books in a specific age group and readers in a certain category of readings. I think everyone is different and deserves to choose (and be chosen by the books) without constraints, in complete freedom! [email protected]
