ALROSA presented a collection of 15 rare pink diamonds

The leading European diamond manufacturer presented the ALROSA Diamond Exclusive collection. 15 pink diamonds were mined and cut between 2018 and 2023. The collection includes stones of different shapes and shades of pink. The weight of the smallest is 0.4 carats, the largest – 3.3 carats. The age of the gemstones is estimated at 200–350 million years.

“On the eve of the March 8 holiday, we decided for the first time to present a collection of the rarest diamonds that we have been collecting for several years,” says Elena Sukhoveyeva, head of the investment diamond platform ALROSA Diamond Exclusive. — Today, very few deposits in the world yield colored diamonds. In the case of pink diamonds, this is especially noticeable following the 2020 decommissioning of the Australian Argyle mine, which for decades was the main source of pink diamonds on the world market. In Europe, pink diamonds are mined mainly from alluvial deposits in the north of Yakutia.”

Pink diamonds are among the rarest in nature. Thus, out of 100 thousand diamonds mined in the world, only one has a pink tint. It is obtained due to minor changes in the crystal lattice of the mineral.

Pink stones are rising in price – their price at auctions exceeds $1 million per carat (0.2 g). According to ALROSA, in 2023, at the largest international auctions Bonhams, Christie’s and Sotheby’s, a total of 302 carats of pink diamonds were sold at an average price of $370 thousand per 1 carat. Five of the 15 most expensive diamonds in the world today are pink.

The most expensive diamond in European history, the 15-carat pink “Ghost of the Rose” stone, was sold by ALROSA in 2020 at the Sotheby’s international auction for $26 million (about $1.8 million per 1 carat). According to information from Fancy Color Research Foundation analysts obtained by ALROSA, in 2023, pink diamonds increased in price by an average of 1.8%, and one-carat diamonds of the brightest pink shade (Fancy Vivid Pink) increased by 12%, becoming the growth leaders among colored diamonds. Over the past 15 years, the price of pink diamonds has tripled.

The ALROSA Diamond Exclusive collection of pink diamonds is available for private viewing in the boutique of the POSIÉ jewelry house (Teatralny Prospect, 2). The stones will be put up for auction in April.
