Regular consumption of apple cider vinegar is associated with significant weight and body fat reduction. In addition, several other health benefits can be expected.
A new study involving experts from the American University of Science and Technology (AUST) in Beirut examined how consumption of apple cider vinegar affects weight, blood sugar, cholesterol and triglyceride levels. The results can be read in the specialist journal “BMJ Nutrition, Prevention & Health”.
Weight problems are widespread
Many people have weight problems that pose serious health risks. Therefore, it is important to identify simple yet effective ways to combat overweight and obesity. Drinking apple cider vinegar might help here.
In the new study, the researchers examined the effects of apple cider vinegar on a total of 120 overweight or obese people. They were randomly assigned to either one of three intervention groups that took five, ten or 15 milliliters of apple cider vinegar, or a control group that only received a placebo over a period of twelve weeks.
During the study period, the researchers determined the anthropometric parameters, fasting blood sugar, cholesterol levels and triglyceride levels several times.
Positive effects of apple cider vinegar consumption
The experts found that daily apple cider vinegar consumption at all three doses over a period of four to twelve weeks was associated with significant reductions in weight, body mass index (BMI), waist/hip circumference and body fat percentage .
In addition, apple cider vinegar consumption also lowered blood sugar, cholesterol and triglyceride levels and consumption over a period of twelve weeks was not associated with any significant risks, reports the research team.
The researchers conclude that consumption of apple cider vinegar contributes to an improvement in anthropometric and metabolic parameters in overweight and obese people. Apple cider vinegar could be a promising dietary supplement in the fight against obesity without having to worry about side effects.
Effective against obesity and Alzheimer’s disease
The current study is consistent with previous research results. A review article published in the “British Journal of Medical & Health Sciences” (BJMHS) also provided evidence of a positive effect on weight loss.
According to the experts, the studies evaluated on apple cider vinegar indicate an effect against obesity and Alzheimer’s. In addition, apple cider vinegar has antibacterial, antifungal effects and is beneficial for cardiovascular health.
Overall, it seems advisable to make apple cider vinegar a regular part of your diet in order to benefit from its beneficial properties. (as)
