Permanent makeup: these tattoo products now banned

In a press release published on December 20, the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) reveals that it is suspending the marketing and use of all Perma Blend tattoo products, intended primarily for permanent makeup and manufactured by Ink Projects LLC.

As a reminder, following an alert in September 2023, ANSM teams noted the presence of bacteria in 3 batches of the Perma Blend tattoo product from the Luxe “Vivid Koral” range. This contamination led the manufacturer, in conjunction with the ANSM, to withdraw from the market in October 2023 the 3 batches of tattoo products concerned. In a press release published on December 20, the Health Agency reports that a health policy decision was taken to suspend in particular the marketing and use of all Perma Blend tattoo products, intended mainly for permanent makeup and manufactured by Ink Projects LLC.

Lack of sterilization of products

In its press release, the ANSM specifies that “the investigations we have carried out have highlighted that the absence of sterilization concerns all Perma Blend products. The risk of bacterial contamination is therefore not excluded for the all of these products. Consequently, we suspend the importation, the placing on the market free of charge or for a fee, the wholesale distribution, the holding with a view to sale or distribution free of charge, the advertising and the use of Perma Blend tattoo products, until they are brought into compliance with the provisions applicable to them. The company Ink Projects LLC is therefore required to proceed without delay with the withdrawal of the products.”

To know : In the event of a risk to public health resulting from the marketing or use of a health product or from non-compliant manufacturing conditions, the ANSM may take health measures (suspension of marketing). the market, manufacturing, distribution, restriction of use, etc.). These constitute strong legal acts. In fact, they result from a scientific and regulatory evaluation process aimed at guaranteeing the proportionality of the measure to the health risk.

The agency also enlightens users by informing them that the establishments in which permanent makeup tattoos were carried out must be able to provide traceability of the injections carried out. It is therefore strongly recommended to contact the professional if they use a Perma Blend product.

What should I do if I received an injection of a Perma Blend product?

To inform and reassure consumers, the ANSM website specifies the right reflexes to adopt if you have received an injection of this product:

“In the event of an adverse reaction (redness, pimple or other skin reaction in the tattoo area):

  • Preferably consult a dermatologist, or your doctor;
  • Report this adverse effect on the adverse health event reporting portal (‘Another Product/Tattoo Product’ section).
