Two desserts are currently being recalled at Aldi. Reason for the product recall: According to the manufacturer, the desserts may be contaminated with salmonella. These bacteria trigger infections that can lead to symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, weakness and fever. The manufacturer therefore strongly advises against consumption.
Edmund Merl Feinkost GmbH & Co. KG is recalling the following desserts in the interests of preventive consumer protection:
- “Mousse au Chocolat classic” from the Gourmet Finest Cuisine brand in the 350 gram pack with all best-before dates from October 2nd, 2023 up to and including October 6th, 2023
- “Mousse au Chocolat white” from the Gourmet Finest Cuisine brand in the 350 gram pack with all best-before dates from October 2nd, 2023 up to and including October 6th, 2023
Where were the desserts sold?
As the manufacturer announced in consumer information about the recall, the affected desserts were available throughout ALDI Nord’s sales area. Edmund Merl Feinkost GmbH & Co. KG emphasizes that only the above-mentioned products with the stated best-before dates are affected.
However, other best-before dates, varieties and items from the “Gourmet Finest Cuisine” brand are not affected by this recall. The relevant items have already been removed from store shelves.
Consumers who have already purchased the mousse au chocolat affected by the recall should not consume it but rather return it to any ALDI Nord branch. The purchase price will be refunded there even without presenting a receipt.
What are the risks of salmonella?
Salmonella is a rod-shaped bacteria that can cause infections in humans. Symptoms of a salmonella infection include diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, weakness and fever. Certain groups of people, including small children, immunocompromised people and the elderly, are at higher risk of severe disease.
The manufacturer therefore recommends seeking medical attention and pointing out a possible salmonella infection if symptoms occur after consuming the above-mentioned desserts.
