These Christmas Songs Will Help Toddlers Fall Asleep

The end of year holidays are far from being easy for young people. Between family dinners and the excitement of opening presents, children often struggle to fall into the arms of Morpheus. A study suggests that Christmas songs can help.

But be careful, this is not just any song celebrating the magic of December 25. This research claims that some Christmas songs help children fall asleep more than others. Experts from the Bed Kingdom site realized this after listing the main characteristics of more than 300 tracks present in Spotify playlists related to sleep. They then applied these criteria to different Christmas carols to determine which ones would most promote falling asleep.

It turns out that slow-paced acoustic songs (less than 100 beats per minute) particularly lend themselves to this. These include “The Secret of Christmas” by Mother’s Daughter, “White Christmas” by Michael Bolton and “Silent Night” by Michael Bublé. Most relaxing Christmas songs are melancholy ballads, like Frank Sinatra’s “I’ll Be Home for Christmas (If Only In My Dreams)”, Kelly Clarkson’s “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” or “Christmas Present” by Doris Day.

Note that the self-proclaimed queen of Christmas, Mariah Carey, appears in this ranking, but not thanks to her extremely famous “All I Want for Christmas Is You”. His song “Christmas Time Is in The Air Again”, released in 2010 on his album “Merry Christmas II You”, appears in tenth position thanks to its soothing tempo.

Generally speaking, if you want to help your children fall asleep through music, choose slow-paced Christmas songs. “It is essential to ensure that children have a peaceful Christmas Eve. A well-designed bedtime playlist with soft melodies, hushed tones and soothing rhythms can contribute to a peaceful night’s sleep“, explain the specialists at Bed Kingdom.
