Rhinofiller: what it is, difference with rhinoplasty, how much a nose filler costs, results, risks

Rhinofiller is a non-invasive technique with a lower cost than rhinoplasty, which has become a global trend due to its easy application and the possibility of avoiding an operating room.

Its function is to correct small irregularities in the nasal contour, such as the sagging nasal tip, the presence of a hump on the nasal bridge or the deviation of the nose, without altering its respiratory part.

With this article you will find out all the details about this treatment, its pros and cons.

What is rhinofiller, nose treatment

One of the facial features that most attracts attention is undoubtedly the nose. Being located in the center of the face and the most prominent part of it, it gives personality and brings harmony to the face.

There has been a lot of talk about rhinofiller lately, because it manages to correct some nose defects without having to go through surgery like for rhinoplasty and it does it quickly and totally outpatiently.

This medical-aesthetic treatment is one of the most performed procedures in facial aesthetic medicine and consists in retouching certain parts of the nose thanks to the infiltration of filling material such as hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxyapatite, which are absorbable.

Although sometimes it is not possible to achieve such a dramatic change as with surgery, this technique can correct the imperfections satisfactorily.

Its application is a safe practice when performed by a professional, an aesthetic medicine doctor, who has knowledge of facial anatomy and experience in applying fillers to ensure that the procedure is safe and effective.

Who can undergo the treatment?

This procedure is performed by those patients who require nose corrections but do not wish, for reasons of time, money or fear, to undergo surgery.

In both aesthetic medicine and plastic surgery, patients need a preliminary evaluation and diagnosis. It is not unusual for the patient, who thought that his only solution was plastic surgery, finally decides, if well advised, that what he needs is a small aesthetic touch up with fillers.

The result of the treatment can be simulated with the patient by taking photographs and small maneuvers that allow us to visualize it quite clearly during the first diagnostic visit.

According to professionals, children under the age of 17 should not have this type of treatment as they are still growing and the shape of their nose can vary. The exception could be for a serious accident that created major malformations or respiratory problems.

Rinofiller before and after: when it can be done

Rhinoplasty without surgery or rhinofiller is a purely contouring procedure in which a filler is injected under the skin of the nose to correct its hump, tip or base.

It can be performed by those who have never appreciated their nose or who, due to age, see a structural sagging of its shape.

The results are immediate and unlike a rhinoplasty, where you have to wait for healing, they can be observed immediately after the infiltration.

The result is therefore fast, but above all natural and gives the patient exactly the nose he had always dreamed of.

For example:

  • In the case of hump noses, a certain amount of hyaluronic acid can be injected under the skin on the bridge of the nose and makes it less noticeable.
  • The tip of the nose can be slightly lifted by a special injection technique on the bridge of the nose. In this way, irregularities or disproportions between the shape and length/width of the nose can be compensated effectively and visibly.
  • You can also act on the root of the nose, by injecting hyaluronic acid between the nostrils to correct the base.
  • In all these cases, what is corrected with fillers is the shape of the nose and not its size. We are therefore talking about small asymmetries and deformities and not serious problems such as deviated nasal septum or turbinate hypertrophy.

The rhinofiller is not even recommended for those with very large noses, as an addition of volume would only make the situation worse.

    How rhinofiller is performed

Since non-surgical rhinoplasty is minimally invasive, the procedure doesn’t require much preparation, it just involves these small steps.

First of all, an appointment is made with the aesthetic doctor for a consultation. The doctor takes a medical history to exclude serious pathologies or incompatibilities with the technique. Then, either another appointment is made or the treatment is carried out.

On the day of the procedure, the patient sits on a bed with the backrest raised so that the face appears as relaxed as possible.

The nose and surrounding areas are disinfected and an anesthetic cream can be applied for 15 minutes if desired. Afterwards, the nose is analyzed together with the patient in front of the mirror and the injection sites on the nose are discussed.

Then the filler is injected under the skin of the nose in the areas decided by the doctor. The result, precisely because it is visible immediately after the treatment, can also be changed by the patient who wants, for example, an immediate correction.

The result will still be fully visible within 4-7 days.

It hurts? How long does it last?

The rhinofiller is a treatment that is done in the clinic and lasts about 30 minutes. The procedure is not painful, but to make it more bearable even for those with a very low pain threshold, an anesthetic cream can be spread on the face 15 minutes before. This way you don’t even feel the moment the needle pricks your skin.

The injection of the product used can be a little uncomfortable and in some cases burn slightly, but it is completely bearable.

The result is effective, but temporary: it lasts from 12 to 16 months because the fillers used are absorbable. Times depend a lot on the quality of the product used, its consistency, the elastic return of the skin to its initial condition, how heavy the tip of the nose is, but also how long it takes for hyaluronic acid to be reabsorbed.

Prices and costs of the rhinofiller

Fixing nose defects with fillers certainly has lower costs than traditional surgery.

Each treatment has a cost that can vary from 300 to 600 euros and varies according to the specialist who performs it, the injected product, the clinic and the region in which it is performed.

To these costs must be added those of subsequent treatments, which can be performed either when the product is completely reabsorbed or when defects begin to appear again.

In the first case, you can wait up to two years, while in the second, you can make a booster after 6 months and after 1 year.

Generally, the soft tissues of the nose, after the first treatments, become more elastic and therefore tend to keep the results longer.

Side effects and risks of treatment

The doctor who performs a rhinofiller must have a thorough knowledge of the nasal vascular anatomy and know what to do in situations of vascular involvement.

In the nasal dorsum there is an anastomosis formed by the dorsal nasal artery, the ophthalmic artery, the angular artery and the lateral nasal artery from the facial artery.

One of the most devastating complications described after nonsurgical nose reshaping with filling is blindness: nasal dorsal injection can accidentally rupture this anastomosis, causing a retrograde embolism of ophthalmic and clinical blindness for the patient.

Another possible vascular complication is necrosis of the skin of the nasal tip, which receives collateral flow from this anastomosis. The underlying mechanism is assumed to be compression, occlusion and/or embolization of these vessels.

In addition to knowledge of nasal vascular anatomy, safe nonsurgical rhinoplasty requires selection of the optimal fill, as well as placement with the appropriate technique, depth, and locations.

Similar complications have been observed following administration of fillers to the forehead, glabellar region, temple, and nasolabial region. To avoid these, an adequate technique of deep, perpendicular and slow injection through a 30 G needle is essential.
