A Dutch manufacturer is launching a recall for a ready meal offered by EDEKA. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria were detected in the affected product. Listeria is a pathogen that can cause flu-like illnesses. For some people, the bacteria pose a serious threat.
The Boboli company is recalling the ready meal “Focaccia Basil Tomato” from the “Boboli Mediterraneo” brand in the 2 x 165 gram packaging. All items with a best-before date of October 3, 2023 and the EAN code 8715947203743 are affected by the recall. The products were sold in EDEKA supermarkets.
Manufacturer warns against consumption
The manufacturer strongly recommends that you no longer consume the ready meal mentioned above. The bacterium Listeria monocytogenes can cause a disease called listeriosis, which can manifest itself in a variety of ways.
Potential consequences of a Listeria infection
While listeria is more likely to cause flu-like symptoms such as fever, muscle aches and nausea in otherwise healthy people, the bacteria can have more serious consequences in people with weakened immune systems, the elderly, pregnant women and newborns.
In risk groups, severe complications can occur during listeriosis, including meningitis or blood poisoning. In the worst case, an infection can even be fatal.
