In some federal states, sausage was offered that may contain pathogenic bacteria. Consumers who have bought the affected sausage should under no circumstances consume it – there is a risk of infections with fever and diarrhea if consumed. The manufacturer has now started a recall for the contaminated goods.
The manufacturer Meininger Wurstspezialitäten aus Thüringen GmbH is recalling the “Thuringian Knackwurst with Garlic” as a precautionary measure. All items including batch number 348 with best-before dates until November 14, 2023 are affected by the recall.
When and where was the Thuringian Knackwurst offered?
According to the manufacturer, the Kackwurst was only sold at various service counters between September 19, 2023 and October 19, 2023.
As the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety reports, sales in the federal states of Bavaria, Hesse and Thuringia were carried out by the Kaufland company. In Thuringia, the Knackwurst was also sold in REWE branches and in branches of Meininger Wurstspezialitäten aus Thüringen GmbH.
Reason for the product recall
According to the manufacturer, bacteria of the Listeria monocytogenes type were detected in the sausage as part of its own controls. Listeria can cause infections called listeriosis.
“Listeria disease usually manifests itself within 14 days of infection with diarrhea and fever,” warns the manufacturer in a notice about the recall.
“People who have eaten this food and develop severe or persistent symptoms should seek medical attention and point out a possible listeria infection,” recommends Meininger Wurstspezialitäten aus Thüringen GmbH.
Process of the callback
Customers who bought the above-mentioned sausage during the corresponding sales period should no longer consume it. Instead, the Knackwurst can be handed in at the respective shopping location. The purchase price will be refunded there even without presenting a receipt.
