Where does the “second beard” come from? It is not just a cosmetic defect

Witold Pyrkosz, a specialist in manual facial therapy and the creator of the Pan Kobido brand, points out that the so-called a second beard can be caused by many factors. Therefore, to get rid of it, a holistic approach is needed.

– If it were as simple and simple as that, it would be easier to fight it. However, there may be many reasons for the appearance of a second chin, including anatomy itself, i.e. genetics. Then predispositions come into play, resulting from the structure of the jaw, which is often retracted, which means there is relatively little space for this tissue and something called a “goiter” may form. As for situations where there was no unwanted second beard, but there is one, we are talking about a problem that mainly involves the hypertrophy of fatty tissue. And this is where the question of how to combat an unwanted chin begins. Witold Pyrkosz points out that it is a mistake to focus on the face as the main problem and emphasizes that stress and how we deal with it are also important. Accumulating stress leads to muscle tension. Compensation occurs, and an example is the masseter muscles, which, although we are not aware, are often very tense. The unsightly appearance of the chin is the result of a number of processes taking place in the body, i.e. a problem of the entire body and lifestyle. When movement is sporadic, not only fat tissue accumulates around the face, but also lymph begins to accumulate, which ultimately affects the oval as well. Body posture is also important.

– Daily attitude is very important. Spending time in front of a computer, telephone or TV forces us to a certain position, which affects the entire body. However, exercises should start with taking care of the above-mentioned posture and it is not about “sticking your chest forward”, i.e. excessively straightening yourself. It is important that the silhouette is not tense in any direction, but consciously straight.

– The idea is to straighten the sternum up, nothing more. We do not pull our arms back, this is an absolute mistake and a misunderstanding of the idea. You need to lift your chest and everything else will fall into place. When starting the self-massage, we can slightly lift the chin and perform any movements from the bottom up, which will have a relaxing effect. If we perform deep movements, i.e. intramuscular movements, they should be performed slowly, and if the movements are shallow, then we set them at a faster pace. Although the issue is complex, it does not mean that you cannot get rid of an unwanted chin. However, if you want to improve the oval and reduce the double chin, just a few minutes a day is enough, but then such massages should be performed every day.

– Self-massages must be very simple and short-lived to be effective in the long term. Then it makes sense. They should last a few minutes, because no one will work together for half an hour every day. Therefore, I always emphasize that the best solution is two or three minutes in front of the mirror a day. This will have a fundamental and phenomenal impact on your appearance – emphasizes the masseur.

Witold Pyrkosz points out that the described facial self-massages affect both fat tissue and profiling. This is due to the fact that the accumulated tissue becomes more plastic during the massage and does not solidify, thus creating an unwanted chin.

– By plasticizing this area, both the fat tissue and the muscles and skin will be better supplied with blood and nourishment, and the lymph will begin to flow more freely. In our body, the problem mainly results from the fact that the tissues, as a result of the so-called stagnation, they become stiff. As long as they are plastic, you can do something else with them. When they stiffen, the problem begins at the muscle, tissue-fat or fascial level. And this, in turn, leads to tissue malnourishment and a vicious circle is created – emphasizes Witold Pyrkosz.

However, the above-mentioned self-massage and fat tissue plasticization is not limited to working only from the outside. The specialist indicates a less popular, but equally important and effective method.

– Put your finger in a nitrile glove (not latex!), or simply thoroughly cleaned, into your mouth, under your tongue. We relax the palate and around the tongue. With the fingers of the other hand, we touch our chin so that the fingers from the inside meet the fingers from the outside. Then we make short, slow movements, they can be circles, and this way we plasticize the tissue – says the masseur in a graphic way.

The expert emphasizes that you should be careful and do not make any intense and sudden movements. Such action could contribute to traumatizing the tissues, and this will certainly not help, but only harm. Self-massage is supposed to be pleasant and relaxing and reduce tension. Movements that support lymph flow, with the head slightly raised, will also be helpful in combating the double chin.

– It is worth making all movements from the center of the face, i.e. from the nose to the sides, on both sides and down the neck, i.e. under the lymphatic channels, to support the lymph flow system – explains the specialist.

While expecting results, it is better not to treat changing your appearance as a goal in itself. Getting rid of a double chin should be an added value. The key is to improve your well-being and realize whether the desire to expect quick change is not due to an attempt to meet the expectations of others rather than your own needs.

– When we cannot come to terms with our appearance or the effects of the passage of time, it is good to ask ourselves what causes it. Are you sure you don't like me in the mirror? Or maybe I judge myself through other people's eyes and give in to social pressure, or maybe I give in to my own fears because I'm getting older and I feel pressured to do something about it. It's good then to meet yourself and find real motivation. Sometimes a good and honest conversation after the procedure will bring a better result than the procedure itself.
